Syrian Linguist: The Quran Is a Catalyst for the Growth and Maturity of the Arabic Language

A Syrian researcher and linguist, Muhammad Hussein al-Tayyan, considers the Holy Quran to be the key to the flourishing and globalization of the Arabic language. According to the Shia Waves Agency, citing Al Jazeera, al-Tayyan emphasizes, “If it were not for the Quran, the Arabic language would not exist.”
In an article on Al Jazeera’s website, al-Tayyan writes that the Quran not only preserved and expanded the Arabic language but also gave rise to related sciences, rhetoric, and arts. He states that it elevated the language from a local, tribal level to that of the entire Islamic nation. Al-Tayyan adds that the Quran’s influence enabled the Arabic language to express complex scientific, philosophical, and literary concepts while simultaneously fostering cultural and artistic growth in the Islamic world. He concludes that without the Quran, not only the Arabic language but also the cultural and scientific heritage of the Islamic nation would not have reached its current form or international standing.
