The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced that security forces had foiled an alleged terrorist plot linked to ISIS in the Sayyida Zaynab area of Damascus countryside, following an armed confrontation between a security patrol and two suspected members of the group who were reportedly preparing to carry out an attack targeting a government facility.

In a statement, the ministry said that security personnel became suspicious of two masked individuals positioned near a road in the Sayyida Zaynab area. When officers attempted to stop them for identification, the suspects allegedly opened fire, leading to an armed exchange that ended with both individuals being neutralized.

The ministry said preliminary investigations and an inspection of the site indicated that the two individuals had been preparing an explosive device as part of a planned terrorist operation. It added that explosives and various weapons were found in their possession.

According to the statement, subsequent investigations revealed that the two suspects were affiliated with the ISIS terrorist organization. Security authorities have begun further investigations to identify any possible networks or cells connected to the suspects.

The operation comes as part of ongoing security efforts to track extremist groups and prevent attacks that could threaten public safety and stability, particularly in the Sayyida Zaynab area, which hosts significant religious and population activity.

The Syrian Interior Ministry said security operations and preventive measures would continue to counter terrorist threats and protect citizens and public institutions from potential attacks.
