The University of Baltistan in Skardu, Pakistan, hosted the 7th Annual Hussain Day Conference, bringing together scholars, academics, and intellectuals to discuss the enduring legacy of Imam Hussain and his sister Sayyida Zainab (peace be upon them).
The event opened with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by a welcoming address from Vice Chancellor Professor Naeem Tariq, who emphasized the importance of such gatherings in promoting intellectual and spiritual discourse rooted in the Hussaini tradition.
This year’s theme, “The Role of Sayyida Zainab”, highlighted her courage, steadfastness, and eloquence in upholding truth after the tragedy of Karbala. Speakers described Sayyida Zainab as a timeless role model and a source of guidance for humanity, stressing that the principles of Imam Hussain and Lady Zainab remain vital for reforming societies and educational institutions.
Discussions also touched upon contemporary challenges facing the Muslim world, with participants noting that reliance on rhetoric without meaningful action has contributed to stagnation, injustice, and unrest. The conference called for a renewed commitment to Hussaini values as a foundation for intellectual resilience, social unity, and authentic Islamic solidarity.
Prominent figures, including Sayyid Riazi al-Mousavi, Sheikh Ahmed Turabi, Allama Ashraf Ali Tabani, Mufti Khalid Mahmood, Khawaja Najm, Dr. Abdul Aziz Ali, and Sayyid Hassan Shah, presented insightful perspectives, adding both academic depth and spiritual significance to the gathering.
