Students at Kandahar University report that the Taliban have banned photography and videography on campus, reflecting wider restrictions in Afghanistan’s educational institutions, Amu TV reported. During a recent award ceremony, Taliban officials warned attendees against capturing images or videos and instructed them to stop such activities.

Journalism students say they have faced repeated warnings, hindering their academic and professional training by prohibiting photo and video work on university grounds. This ban aligns with a broader Taliban policy, as nearly half of Afghanistan’s provinces have outlawed photographing living beings, including people and animals.

The restrictions began after the Taliban’s controversial morality law was approved last August, with Kandahar cited as the starting point. While Taliban authorities have not officially commented on the university directive, press freedom groups and rights advocates express concern over increasing censorship and limits on freedom of expression under Taliban rule.
