First Batch of Indonesian Hajj Pilgrims to Depart Next Week Under Makkah Route Initiative

Over 1,500 Indonesian pilgrims will depart for Saudi Arabia next week as part of the Makkah Route initiative, with 221,000 expected to participate in this year’s Hajj, Arab News reported.
The pilgrimage, scheduled from June 4–9, will see early arrivals to maximize the spiritual journey.
Hilman Latief, Director General of Hajj and Umrah Management, confirmed the first batch departs on May 2 from Jakarta, Surabaya, and Solo. Visa processing is underway, with officials optimistic about timely issuance. The Makkah Route program, launched in 2019, streamlines visa, customs, and health checks at departure airports, reducing wait times.
In Saudi Arabia, 4,000 Indonesian Hajj officers will assist pilgrims in Jeddah, Madinah, and Makkah. Each group will have four officers, including medics, providing support for accommodation, transport, and meals. “Our officers are fully prepared,” said Nasrullah Jasam of the Indonesian Hajj Committee.
Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation, sends the highest number of Hajj pilgrims annually. Authorities aim for a smooth, safe journey amid high demand for this pillar of Islam.
