Liberal Party Leader Mark Carney Sworn in as Canada’s 24th Prime Minister

Mark Carney, the newly elected leader of the Liberal Party, was officially sworn in as Canada’s 24th prime minister on Friday at Rideau Hall in Ottawa, Anadolu Agency reported.

“We are a government with a strong focus on action,” Carney stated to reporters outside Rideau Hall before the swearing-in ceremony. He also shared a message on X, emphasizing, “Today, we are establishing a government that responds to the moment. Canadians expect action — and that’s what this team will provide.”

Outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau officially resigned today, disbanding his 37-member Cabinet. Carney, who achieved a significant victory in the Liberal leadership contest, has reduced his Cabinet to 24 members.

Carney, a former governor of both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, has also worked at Goldman Sachs and played a crucial role in guiding Canada through the 2008 financial crisis. Despite his extensive experience, Carney is new to politics, having never held an elected office before.
