Washington State Moves to Recognize Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha as State Holidays
Washington’s House State Government and Tribal Relations Committee advanced legislation on Wednesday to designate Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha as official state holidays, Kima TV reported.
House Bill 1434 seeks to acknowledge the cultural and religious significance of the two Islamic celebrations. If enacted, Washington would join a small group of states formally recognizing these holidays.
Democratic Representative Beth Doglio (District 22), a sponsor of the bill, emphasized inclusivity: “This bill recognizes our Muslim neighbors and celebrates the diversity that strengthens our communities.” The proposal now heads to the full House for a vote.
