Floods and Landslides in Malaysia Claim Five Lives and Displace Thousands

At least five individuals have lost their lives, and thousands have been displaced due to severe floods and landslides in Malaysia, particularly affecting the states of Sarawak and Sabah on Borneo Island, Anadolu Agency reported. Approximately 5,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes as relentless floods have inundated the region.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee has reported that Serian city has seen the highest number of displaced individuals, with numerous families seeking refuge in temporary relief centers. Additionally, landslides in the town of Miri have contributed to the displacement crisis.

The Kota Marudu district in Sabah has been identified as the worst-hit area, with 673 residents displaced. Local authorities are working to provide assistance and shelter to those affected, as the situation remains critical in the wake of ongoing heavy rainfall. Emergency response efforts are underway to ensure the safety and well-being of the displaced populations.
