Malaysia is hosting the 2026 “Mosque Open Day” initiative during September as part of Islamic Tourism Month, opening several mosques to visitors from different religions, cultures and nationalities.

The program aims to introduce visitors to Islamic culture, mosque architecture and the social role of mosques through guided tours, cultural activities and interactive experiences.

Unlike traditional visits limited to observing buildings from outside, the initiative allows guests to learn about daily life inside mosques, ask questions about Islamic practices and engage in dialogue with Muslim communities.

The activities include cultural, family and educational programs, as well as events for youth and children, highlighting the mosque’s historical role beyond worship, including education, social support and community service.

Organizers say the initiative seeks to strengthen mutual understanding, address misconceptions about Islam and build bridges between Muslims and wider society through direct communication.

The Malaysian program reflects efforts to expand the community role of mosques while preserving their religious mission, combining worship with education, volunteer work and social engagement.
