Bombing by Junta Forces in Central Myanmar Leaves 22 Dead

At least 22 people were killed and dozens injured in a bombing by junta forces in central Myanmar, Anadolu Agency reported. The airstrikes targeted a school and hospital in the village of Singut, located in the rebel-controlled Myingyan Township of Mandalay Region.

The attack, which occurred over the weekend, resulted in the deaths of at least 12 rebels, along with numerous civilians, including children and healthcare workers. A member of a local defense team stated that two bombs were dropped on a school building being used as a rebel base.

This incident follows a ceasefire agreement signed on January 18 between the junta and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army during peace talks in Kunming, China. According to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, over 6,100 civilians have been killed by security forces since the military coup in February 2021, not including casualties from ongoing conflicts.
