Governor of Michigan proclaims January as Muslim American Heritage Month

Governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, has declared January as Muslim American Heritage Month, highlighting the contributions of the state’s Muslim community, estimated at 240,000 people, news reports said Wednesday.

“This month, we honor their achievements, reflect on their history, and recommit to a Michigan where everyone can thrive,” the governor stated.

According to media outlets, local officials echoed the sentiment, praising Muslim Americans for enriching Michigan’s culture, economy, and communities.

Community leaders, including Ahmad Alkaabi of the Michigan Immigrant and Refugee Council, lauded the proclamation, emphasizing the community’s vital role in economic growth and cultural diversity.
