A mass grave containing the remains of dozens of Kurdish women and children has been uncovered in Iraq’s southern Muthanna province, local media reported on Sunday. The site was identified in May using satellite imagery.
Located in the Tal Sheikh area of Samawah, about 130 kilometers from the provincial capital, the grave is thought to hold nearly 150 victims. Initial excavations have revealed human skulls, footwear, and traditional Kurdish clothing.
The exact number of those buried remains unknown, but the discovery sheds light on a tragic chapter in Iraq’s history.
