Open Mosque Day in La Mirada Promotes Understanding of Islam
La Mirada Masjid, located in Los Angeles County, California, will host its annual “Open Mosque Day” on Sunday, October 20, inviting community members to learn about Islam and foster interfaith dialogue, Whittier Daily News reported.
Since its inception in 2011, the event aims to promote peace and reduce Islamophobia in the San Gabriel Valley.
Mosque leader Mohammed R. Rahman emphasized the importance of education in dispelling misconceptions about Muslims. The event will feature discussions on the pillars of the Muslim faith, including the significance of hijabs and their parallels in Judaism and Christianity.
Recent reports indicate a rise in hate crimes against Muslim and Jewish communities, highlighting the need for such initiatives. Rahman noted that the mosque actively engages in community service and interfaith cooperation, including a recent “peace walk” to condemn Islamophobia.
People of all faiths have been encouraged to attend and participate in this inclusive event.
