Four Iraqi soldiers were martyred, and three others were wounded on Wednesday when Daesh militants ambushed an army convoy near Kirkuk, a northern oil city, according to a military statement. The attack occurred in a rural area southwest of Kirkuk.
Following Daesh’s defeat as a territorial force, its remnants have shifted to conducting hit-and-run attacks on government forces in various regions of Iraq.
Two military officials said security forces were on their way to apprehend a suspected militant around 45 km (28 miles) southwest of Kirkuk when they were attacked by snipers and automatic gunfire.
While no group has claimed responsibility, the military statement attributed the attack to Daesh militants.
