Iraq: Security forces kill at least 6 terrorists with suspected ties to ISIS in Kirkuk province

Iraqi security forces killed at least six suspected ISIS members, including a leader, in an operation in Kirkuk province on Thursday.

According to the Iraqi army’s Joint Operations Command, F-16 airstrikes targeted a terrorist group, killing Omar Salah Nima, also known as Abu Khattab, a high-ranking ISIS leader.

Following the strikes, Iraqi counterterrorism forces raided the site, uncovering explosive belts, weapons, and technical equipment.

This operation is part of an intensified campaign against ISIS, which has persisted in launching attacks despite losing territorial control in 2017.

The group continues to pose a security threat in Iraq, particularly in disputed areas. Recent operations include airstrikes and arrests in Kirkuk, Baghdad, and Diyala provinces.
