Worrying intelligence indicates IS gaining strength in Syria

The Islamic State terror group is making a comeback in Syria, launching numerous attacks against forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad, VOA reported in an article yesterday.

Recent data from U.S. Central Command shows that there are about 2,500 Islamic State fighters in Syria and Iraq, double the previous estimates.

Reports from the Counter Extremism Project and the Rojava Information Center highlight the increasing number of attacks by the Islamic State in central Syria and areas controlled by the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, with 69 confirmed attacks during last month alone.

The group has targeted civilians, security forces and SDF troops, resulting in a significant number of casualties, with 84 Syrian soldiers and 44 people killed.
