American Bar Association calls for global action to prevent ‘Hazara genocide’ in Afghanistan
The American Bar Association (ABA) has recently urged global governments to recognize and prevent genocide against the Hazara people in Afghanistan, Khaama Press reported.
In a recent statement, the ABA called on the U.S. Department of State to promote justice and end impunity for such atrocities. The Hazara, a predominantly Shi’a Muslim group, have faced violence and mass killings since the late 19th century, with the current situation indicating a continued intent to destroy them through violence and forced displacement.
The statement identified Daesh Khorasan as a key perpetrator and criticized the Taliban for its discriminatory policies against Hazaras, claiming that their inclusion in government is merely symbolic.
The ABA also highlighted the dangers faced by Hazaras in Pakistan, where extremist groups have targeted them. Since the Taliban’s takeover, thousands of Hazaras have been forcibly evicted from their homes, underscoring the urgent need for international intervention to protect this vulnerable community from ongoing persecution.
