Martyrs’ Crypt opened at Imam Hussein Holy Shrine to serve millions of mourners
Engineer Abdul Hassan Mohammad, head of the protection and maintenance department of the holy shrine of Imam Hussain, announced the opening of the women’s martyrs’ crypt to serve pilgrims on the 10th day of Muharram.
“This work was done in cooperation with the protection and maintenance department and technical and engineering projects department,” he added.
“It includes the complete flooring of 450 square meters and covering the walls with green marble with an area of 30 square meters as well as Karbalai tiling of 40 square meters.”, he mentioned, adding that the project also involved decorating the roof of the area between the crypt of martyrs and the crypt of Hujjah.”
He continued: “This crypt is equipped with an integrated cooling system to create a suitable atmosphere, as well as ventilation, lighting, electricity, surveillance and urban defense systems.
He continued: The main purpose of opening this crypt at this time is to provide additional space and create a suitable space for pilgrims and mourners on the day of Ashura.
The crypt of the martyrs is located between Bab Qazi al-Hajat and Bab al-Karamah in the eastern part of the Hosseini courtyard. It connects the Al-Hujja and the Bab al-Qibla crypts.
It should be mentioned that this crypt is the closest point to Imam Hussein’s grave. The Martyrs’ Crypt development plan is considered one of the most important plans for the holy Shrine of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him).
