Self-Supporting Women in Herat: Taliban Restrictions and Poverty Make Life Harder

Self-Supporting Women in Herat: Taliban Restrictions and Poverty Make Life Harder
————————————
Some self-supporting women in Herat claim that increasing restrictions, lack of employment opportunities, and poverty have subjected them to severe economic difficulties, an article by 8-Subh Daily reported.

Some of these women told the news outlet that they are responsible for covering their families’ expenses, but due to recent restrictions and the detention of women by the Taliban for not wearing a burqa, their movement has also become more difficult.

According to them, this situation has created challenges for the already limited employment opportunities, and many women are unable to meet the basic needs of their families.

Following the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan, widespread restrictions on women’s education, employment, and social participation, along with the economic crisis, have further increased pressure on self-supporting women.

UN Women had previously stated that women and girls in Afghanistan face multiple risks, and among them, self-supporting women are more vulnerable to hunger.
