Attack on Coast Guard Camp in Pakistan Leaves Dozens Dead and Wounded

Dozens of people were killed and wounded in an attack targeting a Coast Guard camp in the Jiwani area of Balochistan province in southwestern Pakistan. The Balochistan Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the operation, while Pakistani authorities have not yet issued a final official casualty toll.
In a statement, the group said the attack was carried out on Friday evening with a suicide bombing at the main gate of the camp using an explosive-laden bus, followed by an assault by several armed men from multiple directions. The group claimed that more than 30 security personnel were killed and dozens more wounded, and that significant damage was caused to the camp.
Local media, citing security sources, reported that 20 security personnel were killed or injured in the attack, while six attackers were also killed. These figures have not been officially confirmed.
Following the attack, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti described the security situation in the province as “extremely bad,” saying security forces were continuing operations against armed groups and stressing the need to eliminate them.
Bugti also said Pakistani operations inside Afghan territory target armed groups, including the Pakistani Taliban and the Balochistan Liberation Army. He claimed these groups have bases in southern and eastern Afghanistan, an allegation the Taliban government has repeatedly denied. Kabul has said victims of Pakistani airstrikes are civilians, a concern previously reflected in UN reports.
The attack comes amid continued security tensions in Balochistan, where armed assaults periodically target security forces and government facilities. Pakistani authorities say they are continuing security operations to pursue armed groups in the province.
