A Lebanese journalist was killed and a photographer injured in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon while covering ongoing hostilities, according to reports.
The incident occurred on April 22 near the town of al-Tayri, where journalist Amal Khalil, who worked for the newspaper Al-Akhbar, was killed. Photographer Zeinab Faraj, who was accompanying her, was wounded in the attack.
According to Reuters and other sources, the two were reporting on earlier strikes when a nearby vehicle was hit. They sought shelter in a house, which was later struck, leading to Khalil’s death and injuries to Faraj.
The Israeli military said the strike targeted vehicles linked to Hezbollah and denied deliberately targeting journalists, while Lebanese officials and press organizations condemned the incident and called for an investigation.
The killing highlights the increasing risks faced by journalists covering conflict zones, as violence continues to escalate along the Lebanon-Israel border.
