Kuwait Revokes Citizenship of Over 2,000 People Amid Legal Reforms
———————————–
Kuwaiti authorities have revoked the citizenship of 2,182 individuals, including their dependents, under three official decrees issued on April 13, and published in the state gazette Al-Kuwait Al-Youm, in what marks a significant step within ongoing reforms of the country’s nationality system.

According to the decrees, 1,104 individuals were stripped of citizenship under one order, 1,076 under another, and two individuals under a third, with the decisions extending to associated family members.

The move comes as part of a broader legal overhaul in Kuwait aimed at tightening regulations governing nationality. Recent amendments have expanded government authority to grant and revoke citizenship and introduced stricter eligibility criteria.

Authorities indicate that the revocations are linked to ongoing reviews of nationality files, often involving cases of alleged fraudulent acquisition or failure to meet legal requirements.

Although reforms have strengthened controls over citizenship, there is no clear confirmation in credible reports of measures such as mandatory DNA testing or blanket renunciation requirements.
