India: Muslim Youth Assaulted in Ranchi, Forced to Chant Hindutva Slogan 

In Ranchi, Jharkhand, an Indian Muslim youth named Obaidullah Hasnain was assaulted by a group of 4-5 individuals who forced him to chant the Hindutva slogan “Jai Shri Ram”, Muslim Mirror reported yesterday.

The attack occurred on Monday night while he was running an errand near Hindi School. Obaidullah was beaten with sticks, resulting in a serious fracture in his hand, before he managed to escape and report the incident to the Hindpuri police station.

Despite naming some attackers no action had been taken initially. However, DCP Prakash Sai confirmed that the police are investigating the complaint and will arrest the culprits.

This incident follows a troubling trend of mob violence in the state, including a recent lynching over goat stealing. Jharkhand passed a bill against mob lynching in December 2021, becoming the fourth state to do so.
