Religious tensions in parts of the Indian subcontinent have highlighted the need for shared spaces that promote understanding and mutual respect among followers of different faiths.
In this context, places that bring people of various religions together around shared sacred figures play an important role in reducing social divisions and promoting peace.
According to India’s PTI news agency, the historic Basilica of the Holy Rosary in Bandel, West Bengal, has become one of the country’s most prominent interfaith pilgrimage sites.
Each year, the church welcomes not only Christians, but also large numbers of Hindu and Muslim pilgrims. Many visit the site because of its statue of the Virgin Mary, peace be upon her, known as “Our Lady of Happy Voyage,” where they pray, seek healing, and fulfill vows.
The site has become a symbol of religious coexistence, reflecting how shared devotion and respect for sacred figures can bring communities together despite differences in belief.
