EU Urges Public to Prepare 72 Hours of Emergency Supplies

The European Commission has announced a new EU Preparedness Union Strategy, encouraging citizens to stockpile emergency supplies for at least 72 hours, Reuters reported. This initiative aims to prepare for various risks, including natural disasters, cyber attacks, and geopolitical crises.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the importance of early warning systems for flood and wildfire-prone areas. The strategy focuses on maintaining essential services like healthcare and drinking water while enhancing public readiness for crises.
Hadja Lahbib, the commissioner for preparedness and crisis management, highlighted the need for a culture of preparedness across Europe. The Commission plans to develop guidelines to help citizens achieve self-sufficiency during emergencies. In a social media video, Lahbib listed essential items for survival, including food, water, a flashlight, power bank, radio, cash, and medication.
