World Uyghur Congress Urges Finland to Address Uyghur Genocide

The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) has called on Finnish leaders to adopt a strong position against the ongoing genocide of Uyghurs during their delegation visit to China from October 28 to 31, ANI reported yesterday.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb and his wife, Suzanne Innes-Stubb, are scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on October 29.

The WUC urged Finnish officials to prioritize discussions on Uyghur human rights and forced labor, emphasizing the need for action in light of the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive. The organization highlighted China’s dismissal of 30 recommendations from the Universal Periodic Review, particularly concerning the rights of Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities.

While recognizing Finland’s historical ties with China, the WUC stressed the importance of Finland maintaining its commitment to human rights advocacy and fulfilling its moral obligations, despite potential economic pressures from the Chinese government.
