Islamophobia in Brazil during elections time
Campaigning in South America’s largest country, Brazil, has been going on for a while, and the country’s current right-wing president, Jair Bolsonaro, appears to be having a hard time getting re-elected.
Reuters reported that a recent voter poll showed that Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva remains the front-runner in Brazil’s October presidential election, although support for incumbent President Jair Bolsonaro appears to be on the rise.
One of the issues that could be considered in this year’s Brazilian presidential election is Bolsonaro’s view of Muslims and their issues.
Although the presence of Islam in South America and Brazil has a history that extends back 10 years, during Bolsonaro’s rule, the Muslims of Brazil were sometimes subjected to anti-Islam attacks and statements, and it seems that Islamophobia in Brazil is making its way into society from this country.
