Canada police arrest man who placed animal corpse in front of newly opened mosque

Quebec police have arrested a 33-year-old man who threw the body of a dead animal outside the mosque of the Islamic Center in Vaudreuil-Durion.
The police took the man into custody, then released him after he agreed to follow a set of conditions, including submitting him to court at a later date if the charge was proven against him, according to the local newspaper (Montreal Gazette).
A police spokesman said it was possible that the perpetrator would be charged with “harassment and vandalism, as well as accusations of hate crimes and Islamophobia.”
For his part, Canadian Transportation Minister Omar Al-Ghabra expressed his dissatisfaction with the incident.
He tweeted, “There is no place for hate and discrimination in Canada, those who did it must be held accountable. Islamophobia and other forms of hate have no place in our society, this is not what we are in Canada.”
It is noteworthy that the building of the Islamic Center was previously an abandoned restaurant before it was transformed into a place exclusively for Muslims, in October 2020.
