Egypt has officially opened the permanent headquarters of the African Space Agency in Cairo, Anadolu Agency reported.
Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty described this development as a significant milestone for Africa’s collective efforts and a transformative shift in acquiring future capabilities, particularly in space technology and policy. He emphasized that the agency aims to address key African challenges by collecting and analyzing data to support practical programs in areas such as food security, crop production and distribution, ecosystem and biodiversity management, and disease prevention.
Founded in 2016, the African Space Agency was created to coordinate space collaboration with Europe and other global partners, advance space missions, and ensure efficient access to space-based data, services, and products. In 2019, Egypt was chosen by the African Union’s Executive Council to host the agency’s headquarters.
