A German court has repealed the law banning Muslim women from wearing headscarves in schools in the German city of Hamburg.

Right-wing parties in Germany demanded a ban on Muslim women wearing the headscarf and legislated for that, but a German court ordered the repeal of the ban in Hamburg.

In 2018, officials in North Rhine-Westphalia banned the wearing of the headscarf for students under the age of 14, and one of the Muslim students raised a call to repeal the local legislation, which led to the court’s repeal of it.

The court ruled that school officials were not permitted to impose such restrictions on Muslim students under the law.

Accordingly, the Hamburg court ordered the repeal of the headscarf ban in schools in order to respect the right of Muslims to freedom of religion.
