Iraq closes 900 ISIS websites

The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced on Tuesday the closure of 900 websites affiliated with ISIS terrorist organization.

“The websites were used to spread threats and rumors,” said Saad Maan, the director of relations and media in the Ministry of Interior, noting that “there are malicious armies and organizations working in a hidden way to exploit a certain situation in other directions.”

Maan called on citizens to be cautious in obtaining information and receiving it from its real sources. 

For his part, Director of the Department of Anti-Rumors in the Ministry of Interior, Colonel Ziyad Muhareb Al-Qaisi, stated in a special statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “The Anti-Rumors Section in the Ministry of Interior and in coordination with the Ministry of Communications managed to close about 850 to 900 websites affiliated with ISIS terrorist organization after being monitored and diagnosed.”

He pointed out that “The Iraqi Penal Code No. (111) for the year 1969 punishes anyone who deliberately promotes a false or malicious rumor, provocative propaganda, or false news in wartime, that would harm the war preparations and military operations of the armed forces, or provoke dread or weaken the morale of the nation.”
