Due to a wave of widespread criticism, Austria stops controversial map targeting Muslims

The controversial digital map has stopped working in Austria, due to a wave of widespread criticism from various people and organizations against the authorities.
Islamic groups criticized the Austrian government last month, following the launch of a website prepared by the “Documentation Center for Political Islam”, which includes detailed information on Islamic institutions.
The work of the digital map, which was supervised by an academic at the University of Vienna, Adnan Aslan, and his team was suspended at the request of the “Documentation Center for Political Islam” founded by the government of Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.
In a statement, Aslan expressed his regret over the political controversy raised by the project, and the misuse of the map by some far-right groups.
After the map work was launched on May 27, extremist right-wing groups hung banners bearing anti-Islam statements on many mosques.
