Google Japan Unveils Whimsical Double-Sided Gboard

On October 1, Google Japan introduced a unique double-sided Gboard inspired by the Möbius strip, marking its latest quirky design for “Keyboard Day,” New Atlas reported.

This innovative keyboard features an ortho-linear layout made up of 26 modules, totaling 208 keys—more than double that of a standard keyboard. It allows multiple users to type from any angle, enhancing collaborative projects.

The Möbius strip, a one-sided surface, has fascinated mathematicians and artists for centuries, but this is the first time it has been transformed into a functional keyboard. Google has made the Gboard’s firmware and hardware designs available on GitHub, encouraging DIY enthusiasts to create their own versions using 3D printers.

This playful release continues Google Japan’s tradition of presenting eccentric keyboard designs, following previous creations like a teacup and stick keyboard.
