Legal experts warn of the danger of execution for several residents of Qatif in Saudi Arabia

The Committee for the Defense of Human Rights has renewed its call for the Saudi authorities to halt the implementation of death sentences and release prisoners whom it states are detained on ideological and political grounds. This comes amid concerns regarding the fate of several residents of the Qatif region.

In its statement, the committee affirmed the necessity of respecting the fundamental rights of citizens and providing guarantees of justice and fair trials, noting that the judicial procedures followed in several cases, in its assessment, do not provide the necessary guarantees for the accused.

The committee highlighted the cases of several residents from Qatif whom it claimed are facing the threat of death sentences or the implementation thereof, including Hussein Al-Marhoon, Reda Al-Shaib, Salem Abu Abdullah, and Mohammad Al-Zaher.

The committee expressed concern over the judicial procedures related to these cases and described the trials as lacking the standards of just trials, considering that the sentences and measures taken against the accused occur within a context of a retaliatory nature.

The committee demanded the suspension of death sentences and a review of cases that have raised human rights concerns, ensuring the right of the accused to defend themselves and to receive fair, independent, and transparent trials.

These calls come amid ongoing demands by human rights organizations to monitor the condition of prisoners and individuals sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia, particularly cases deemed by those entities to be linked to political or religious activities, ensuring they are handled according to standards of justice and human rights.
