People Endured 100 days of Humanitarian Crisis in Parachinar
Parachinar, located in Kurram, has been under siege for over 100 days due to escalating violence, significantly affecting its 800,000 residents, Dawn Newspaper reported. Following a series of attacks, including one that resulted in over 100 fatalities on November 28, a curfew was imposed, leading to the closure of markets and the suspension of mobile services.
Access to essential goods has become severely restricted, with blocked roads preventing the delivery of food and medical supplies. Hospitals in the region are struggling to cope with a lack of basic medications, while the harsh winter conditions have intensified the suffering of residents.
The local economy is in crisis, with many daily wage workers unable to find employment due to the ongoing violence. A recent peace agreement between Sunni and Shia communities has been signed, but its implementation remains critical for restoring stability. Without sustained efforts to address the underlying issues, the cycle of violence in Parachinar is likely to continue.
