Coinciding with the arrival of Tasu’a, mourning ceremonies for the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and his loyal companions were held with broad participation from Shia Muslims in the Halkalı district of Istanbul.
During the ceremony, mourners recited elegies and lamentations in memory of the martyrs of Karbala, shedding tears in grief and devotion.
Alongside these mourning gatherings, Istanbul’s Zeynebiye Mosque has also become a center for dialogue and intellectual and cultural sessions during the first ten days of Muharram.
These educational gatherings, attended by scholars, religious figures, media personalities, and academics, examine the humanitarian, justice-seeking, and reformist dimensions of the Ashura uprising.
Participants, including large numbers of young people and families from Turkey’s Shia community, emphasized that commemorating Ashura is more than a historical remembrance. They described it as a constructive platform for strengthening moral values, promoting dialogue, encouraging peaceful coexistence, and deepening social responsibility.
In addition, mosques and centers in other Turkish cities have also witnessed mourning processions and remembrance gatherings, reflecting the deep attachment of devotees to the path of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him.
