Like millions worldwide, many Shia Muslims from Georgia have begun their journey for the Arbaeen pilgrimage, Iqna reported yesterday.
They are among pilgrims from Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Bahrain, Pakistan, and Afghanistan participating in this annual event. According to the Islamic Radio and Television Union (IRTVU), Georgian devotees of Imam Hussein (AS) registered for the pilgrimage two months ago and began traveling to Iraq via Turkey and Iran two weeks prior.
This year, nearly 550 Georgian Muslims, 40 percent of whom are women, have received visas to attend, primarily from Shia-populated cities like Marneuli and Gardabani. Georgia, predominantly Christian, has a Muslim population of approximately ten percent.
