Deadly Storms Ravage Eastern Afghanistan: At Least 35 Killed, 230 Injured

Heavy rains and thunderstorms have wreaked havoc in eastern Afghanistan, leaving at least 35 people dead and over 230 injured, VOA reported yesterday.

The casualties were caused by collapsing trees, walls, and roofs in the Jalalabad area and surrounding Nangarhar province.

“There is a possibility that casualties might rise,” warned local official Quraishi Badloon. The wounded and victims’ bodies have been transported to regional hospitals.

The Taliban government has pledged immediate assistance, including shelter, food, and medical aid for displaced families. This tragedy comes just months after devastating flash floods killed hundreds in the country, where the majority rely on agriculture to survive. Experts warn that Afghanistan remains highly vulnerable to the escalating impacts of climate change.”
