Magnitude 6.4 earthquake strikes northeastern Afghanistan, jolts parts of Pakistan, India

A powerful earthquake hit northeastern Afghanistan on Thursday, shaking buildings from the capital Kabul all the way to Islamabad and Delhi.

The epicenter of the 6.4-magnitude earthquake was in Jurm district in the Afghan province of Badakhshan in the mountainous Hindu Kush region, according to the US Geological Survey.

In Pakistan, quakes were felt in Islamabad, Lahore and its surrounding areas, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Earthquake tremors were also felt in Delhi and adjoining areas, local media reported.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the earthquake which occurred at 13.50 local time.
