Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: Sending even one Salawat elevates status of Infallibles
The daily scholarly meeting of Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Sadegh al-Hosseini al-Shirazi was held on Wednesday, 30th of Rabi’ al-Thani. In this session, like the previous meetings, the Supreme Marja answered the questions of the attendees about various jurisprudence issues.
Grand Ayatollah Shirazi discussed the effects of Salawat, and said: Reciting Salawat raises the status of the Ahl al-Bayt, peace be upon them, and there is a particular tradition which says that when anyone recites even one Salawat, the status of the Ma’sumeen will accordingly rise.
His Eminence continued by giving a customary example to clarify, and said: For instance, someone has a flower garden hosting a million flowers. If someone visits that garden and brings one flower with them, one flower is added to the number of flowers in that garden, and now it reaches one million and one flowers. If someone else brings another flower with them, the number of flowers in the garden becomes one million and two flowers, and so on.
The supreme religious authority then emphasized: “This does not mean deficiency or need, because a deficiency is something that is unusual, rather it is an addition. Suppose someone hires two workers for work, and determines an amount for wage for each of them. Now, one of the workers is good-mannered and the other is bad-mannered, and the employer gives an extra amount to the good-mannered person. This does not mean that the person who did not receive the bonus had a defect, but rather the good-mannered person received an additional amount. So, we should distinguish between what is addition and what is deficiency.
Grand Ayatollah Shirazi then discussed part of “Ziyarat Jame’e Kabira”, and said: The Salawat and salutations that we send to the Infallibles, and accepting their wilayah both internally and apparently, has certain effects on us, including the purity of our behaviour and morals, purity of our souls and essence, spiritual growth and development, and finally, forgiveness of our sins.
He added that: These are the effects of Salawat for us, but it is also mentioned in a particular narration that: Salawat elevates the status of Ma’sumeen. Therefore, every Salawat has an effect, recited by a pious scholar or an ordinary person.
