Indian craftsmen continue Husseini symbols industry to keep it present in Shia hearts

Historic shopping bazaars in the Indian Capital, Delhi, have special places where the sewing and industry of Ashura symbols and banners are conducted by professional craftsmen with devotion and love.

Every year and with the inception of the holy month of Muharram, mourners race to buy Husseini-rituals related- symbols, metal pieces and banners which represent the Ashura of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him.

The Pakistan-based newspaper the “Dawn” said in a report, followed by Shia Waves Agency, that ” Craftsmen in the old bazaar, extending from the Purana Kela area to Sarava Bazaar in Delhi, the capital, work day and night to preserve the traditions of Ashura, to keep Karbala present in the hearts of the Shia lovers”.

The newspaper added that, “In addition to mourning banners atop houses, these handmade symbols are among the traditions that distinguish the Husseini processions during Muharram all over Delhi.”
