Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: Execution of Hudud during Major Occultation is a point of great disagreement

The daily scholarly meeting of Grand Ayatollah Shirazi was held on Saturday, July 8. In this meeting, as in previous days, he answered the questions of those present in the meeting about various jurisprudence issues.

When asked about the authority of executing hudud (punishments) by a perfectly-qualified jurist during the major occultation, the Marja said that such authority is a point of great controversy.

He further advised those looking for a hadith-based answer to this question to read the book Jawaher-al-Kalam.

Grand Ayatollah Shirazi mentioned that the reason for the existing differences of opinion is the jurists’ varied understanding of the hadiths on various issues, including this case.

He went on to emphasize that if all the conditions are perfectly met, there is apparently no problem in the implementation of Hudud during the age of occultation by the qualified jurist, but often the conditions are not met perfectly.
