American restaurant chain fires manager who removed the hijab of a Muslim employee

An American restaurant chain fired an assistant manager at a company site in Missouri for assaulting a Muslim woman and removing her hijab.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) had called for the dismissal of the assistant manager, and reported that he had harassed and assaulted a Muslim employee who wore the hijab.
According to the statement, the assistant manager asked to see the employee’s hair on several occasions, and the employee explained that she was wearing the hijab for religious reasons, and therefore would not take it off.
Last month, the assistant manager asked again to see the employee’s hair, and after she refused, the assistant manager began to forcibly remove the woman’s head covering.
The employee reported the incident to the general manager of Chipotle Mexican Grill and the regional field manager. A representative of the group said on Monday that the assistant director was kicked out in mid-August.
The top managers emphasized that the company has a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination of any kind.
