Sword Attack at Swedish High School Leaves Several Injured

Swedish authorities said on Friday that several people were injured in a sword attack at a high school in the central Swedish city of Västerås, while police stopped the attacker after shooting him.
The municipality of Västerås, located northwest of the capital Stockholm, said in a statement that an attacker carrying a sword entered Brinellskolan school and attacked several people, resulting in multiple injuries.
The municipality added that police responded to the scene and managed to stop the attacker after shooting him.
Swedish police said they had received a report of a serious violent incident at a school in Västerås, noting that several police units and security resources were deployed to the site and that one person was detained in connection with the attack.
Police urged residents to stay away from the scene, respect security cordons, and follow officers’ instructions as security measures and investigations continued to determine the circumstances and motives behind the attack.
Meanwhile, Sweden’s Minister of Justice said the government was closely monitoring the incident and maintaining continuous contact with police, describing what happened in Västerås as a “serious incident.”
According to Swedish media reports, the attacker was shot in the leg by police while being subdued. Authorities have not yet released further details about the number of injured people, their condition, or the possible motive behind the attack.
