Warnings of a new disaster in the vicinity of Kabul Airport
On Sunday morning, the United States warned of a “specific and credible threat” near Kabul airport and urged its citizens to leave the area, days after an attack that killed 13 Americans.
“Due to a specific and credible threat, all US citizens located in the vicinity of Kabul Airport should leave the airport area immediately,” the US embassy in Kabul said in a security warning.
Yesterday, US President Joe Biden warned of a possible “new terrorist attack” targeting the airport in the Afghan capital, Kabul, within the next 24-36 hours.
Biden said, following his meeting with the national security team in Washington, today, Saturday, that “the situation on the ground remains extremely dangerous, and the risk of terrorist attacks on the airport remains high, and our leaders have informed me that an attack is very likely within 24-36 hours,” according to a statement released by the White House.
US President Joe Biden added, “The United States will pursue the group responsible for the attack on our forces and innocent civilians in Kabul, and we have done so, and this air strike that targeted ISIS yesterday will not be the last, and we will continue to hunt down anyone involved in the attack.”
Last Thursday, two suicide bombings took place in the vicinity of the airport of the Afghan capital, Kabul, carried out by the terrorist ISIS organization, which left a death toll of 110 people.
For its part, the Pentagon announced that “the two suicide bombings killed 13 American soldiers and wounded 18, stressing, however, that the evacuation process from Afghanistan will continue.”
