Stampede and chaos at Kabul airport after the resumption of the evacuation process

Thousands of Afghan citizens surrounded the entrances to the capital, Kabul, in an attempt to flee the country, after the Taliban terrorist movement took control.
A German news agency quoted a witness saying, “Shots were fired almost continuously outside the heavily armed airport complex,” noting that “thousands of people have been transported through the airport since the Taliban terrorist movement took control of Kabul last Sunday, and the airport is the only place controlled by international forces.”
He added, “The gate of the northern entrance to the airport will be closed for two days,” noting that “the crowd outside the airport includes people of different age groups.”
The Pentagon announced earlier, that the evacuation of civilians had resumed Friday from Kabul airport, after it had stopped for several hours due to the inability of the American base in Qatar to accommodate more people.
General Hank Taylor, from the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the press that “the flights have resumed, and the US military flights to Qatar and other places have taken off, and there are other flights that have taken off towards Kabul while I am talking to you,” noting that the suspension of flights “occurred at a time early Friday morning and lasted for six to seven hours.”
The US State Department has been criticized for its bureaucratic handling of the crisis, as thousands of elderly people and children have to wait for days, in difficult conditions, to obtain documents that would allow them to leave these bases to reach the United States.
Afghan evacuees to Qatar said, “Hundreds of people slept on the ground in aircraft hangars for more than three consecutive nights, in stifling heat, while access to toilets was not possible most of the time.”
The areas immediately surrounding the airport in the Afghan capital are witnessing a state of chaos, as thousands have been seeking since Monday to flee the country.
