Irish MPs raise concern over 70-year-old Bahraini detainee who is being violated and deprived of treatment
Three MPs of the Irish Parliament have questioned Foreign Minister Simon Coveney about human rights violations in Bahrain.
Representatives Neil Collins, Joan Collins, and Michael Creed inquired of Coveney about the efforts being made by his government to release the 70-year-old detainee Hassan Mushaima, who has been deprived of a cancer examination since October 2019.
The three MPs asked what could be done about the harsh conditions Mushaima faces in Jaw Central Prison, and the prison administration ignored his deteriorating conditions resulting from his previous cancer, despite his old age.
Representative Neil Collins asked the Secretary of State for his views on the matters raised in the correspondence about Mushaima, and if he would make a statement on this issue, and in turn, Representative Joan Collins inquired about whether the Foreign Minister would address the grave human rights violations and the absence of democratic institutions in Bahrain, and she also asked him whether the government called for Mushaima’s release.
The International Center for the Support of Rights and Freedoms confirmed that Mushaima’s condition is extremely deteriorating, and that the administration of Jaw Prison confronts her with shocking behavior, and he was previously denied treatment for a full 117 days, cancer examinations, and diabetes treatment, as he suffers from chronic and serious diseases, including diabetes, high blood pressure and gout.
