USA: Middlesex Islamic Center hosts community Iftar to promote understanding of Islam

The Islamic Center of Middlesex County (MCMC) in Piscataway, New Jersey, hosted its annual Ramadan iftar, bringing together Muslims and members of the local community to learn about Islam and participate in the special occasion.

Hundreds of guests gathered in the center’s gymnasium for cultural activities, including an Arabic calligraphy table and a book corner featuring copies of the Quran and summaries of Islamic teachings. Special emphasis was placed on the role of women in Islam.

Before iftar, visitors took guided tours showcasing Islamic practices such as daily prayers and the center’s role in the community. Organizers also introduced Al-Noor Academy, an accredited Islamic school offering education from pre-K to 12th grade.

Imam Abdullah Smith emphasized that the event fosters mutual understanding, calling it “an open invitation to explore our culture, beliefs, and practices.” The event concluded with a Q&A session before the Maghrib call to prayer, after which attendees broke their fast together.
