More Than 100 UK Mosques Open Doors for 11th ‘Visit My Mosque’ Initiative

Organized by the Muslim Council of Britain, the initiative allows visitors to tour mosques, meet members of Muslim communities and ask questions about Islam, religious practices and everyday Muslim life in Britain.

Participating mosques are hosting talks, exhibitions, workshops, guided tours and open discussions, alongside refreshments and food reflecting the diverse cultures of British Muslim communities.

The initiative comes amid concerns over misinformation and stereotypes about Islam and Muslims on social media and online platforms. Organizers say direct interaction can provide visitors with an opportunity to learn about Muslim communities through personal experience and conversation.

Dr. Wajid Akhter, secretary-general of the Muslim Council of Britain, said direct engagement is important for developing a more accurate understanding of British Muslims. He said the initiative enables people to meet Muslims, ask questions and share food and conversation.

The council said thousands of people visit mosques for the first time each year through the initiative, which aims to strengthen community relations and build trust between Muslims and other sections of British society.
