Air travel in Germany is set to be severely disrupted on Monday, March 10, as a 24-hour strike affects major airports. The Verdi trade union has called on public sector and ground handling employees to walk out, impacting operations nationwide.
The German airport association ADV estimates that over 510,000 passengers will be affected, with more than 3,400 flights canceled. Frankfurt Airport, the country’s busiest hub, warned that departures would likely be halted and urged travelers to check their flight status. Other major airports, including Munich and Berlin, will also be impacted.
Verdi is demanding an 8% wage increase or a minimum monthly raise of $380, along with higher bonuses and more time off. The strike follows unsuccessful negotiations last month, with employers rejecting the demands as too costly. Talks are set to resume later in March.
